In the year 2000 I was a sophomore in high school. I can remember a nice spring day riding down the road with my dad in our old jeep when this “Superman” song comes on the radio. It’s catchy chorus had me and my dad singing along before the songs end. Less than a year later (February 28th, 2001) I would find myself, along with a high school buddy, sitting at the Spartanburg Memorial Auditorium waiting in anticipation for 3 Doors Down to start their show. 20yrs later I find myself standing just outside the photo pit waiting with that same anticipation for the band to start their show again. Currently out celebrating the 20th anniversary of their debut album “The Better Life” (delayed by a year due to Covid) the group would go on to play the album in it’s entirety tonight. Fans at the CCNB Amphitheater in Simpsonville, SC braved the rainy weather to take a nostalgic trip back in time through music. The venue was extra packed as 3 Doors Down had canceled the previous night (10/7) and the following nights (10/9) shows in Raleigh, NC and Atlanta, GA due to Covid restrictions at those venues. Many attendees for those shows made the trip to Simpsonville instead to still see the band. Frontman Brad Arnold made a statement from the stage that at no time ever would you be required to “show a piece of paper” to see us play, “even if that means we never play another show.” The crowd erupted in cheers of support for the groups decision as they continued on to sing along with hits songs “Duck and Run,” “Loser” and “Be Like That.” Since the release of their debut album 3 Doors Down has seen continued success with the release of 6 albums in total that have all charted successfully and over 30 million in sales. Additional songs such as “Away From The Sun” and “It’s Not My Time” were featured in the set showcasing hits from other albums as well. Closing out the show with “When I’m Gone” the band again thanked the crowd for their many years of continued support.
