Spartanburg, SC (March 2nd, 2019) – Having seen Alex Williams for the first time back in October 2018 as the opener for Whitey Morgan during his album release show in Asheville, NC I was sure not to miss his headlining show in my hometown. For those who haven’t heard of Alex he is what I like to call a “crusader of country music.” Along with others like Cody Jinks, TN Jet, Ward Davis, Sunny Sweeney and Paul Cauthen he brings back a true genuine country sound that mainstream radio denies despite the substantial success these artists are having. Success that has led to Williams sharing the stage with other notable artists Lynyrd Skynyrd and Hank Williams Jr.
Taking the Ground Zero stage Alex and band started into a set that included songs like, “Hellbent Hallelujah,” “Freak Flag,” and “Strange Days” from his debut 2017 album “Better Than Myself.” Throughout the show Williams mixed in some new songs as he spoke of work on a new album. Straying from the set list, “Another Mans Dreams“ is one of the new tunes that stood out as Alex stripped down to an acoustic guitar with just a faint hint of layered electric fills. His voice and lyrics resonating with those in attendance. “Old Tattoo” is another song from the set that seemed to grab the crowd with its deep sentimental lyrical content of pain and healing.
Williams also took time to play some crowd favorites from artists who have influenced him with Tom Petty’s “Into The Great Wide Open” and the Del Reeves pinned tune “Looking At The World Through A Window.”
Alex is currently out on tour with dates booked through June.
