Greenville, SC (10/12/21) – After the group Bobaflex decided to hang it up in late 2019 many wondered what would become of the band members. Well it didn’t take long for 4 of the members to regroup under a new name known as The Lonely Ones. Wasting no time the band began work on new music. By March of 2020 the group had independently released two singles,“Eternal Sadness“ and “The Lonely One.” With the Covid pandemic putting a halt to many live performances the band hit the social media scene for some self promotion. Releasing music videos for their two singles the band gained momentum from a prior fan base as well as drawing in many new ones. In July of 2020 The Lonely Ones would release a cover of “Flash,” a song originally written and released by Queen. Brian May himself praised the band for their rendition of the song.
Fast forward to 2021 and the band can finally be found out on tour. Tonight’s show is at The Radio Room in Greenville, SC. There would be 2 local openers, Black River Rebels and Silver Tongue Devils, to warm up the crowd. Also on the bill are Seven Year Witch, who are from the local area as well, and have been out on the road for the current leg of the tour. Throughout the night you could feel the energy build. As The Lonely Ones took to the stage the night of raw rock ‘n’ roll only continued. Touring in support of their latest single “Gettin’ High” the group played through a set list of in your face rock music. Songs that showcase a dynamic range of musical senses from the driving drums beats of Tommy Johnson accompanied by Jymmy Tolland holding down the low end on bass. Frontman Marty McCoy filled the room with a powerful vocal presence demanding your attention as he pulled duel guitar duties with Jake Early. The band is one of the tightest group of musicians I’ve seen. Their live show is performed with precision. Only one man short of the last Bobaflex lineup you may think the sound would be similar, and in some aspects you can still hear some familiarity, but The Lonely Ones have down a great job at creating a new, fresh sound for themselves. After many years on the road you can still see the joy of playing amongst all the members and the excitement to be back out playing live shows. Before exiting the stage The Lonely Ones thanked the crowd for their support that allows them to still do perform before creating those fans at the merch booth.
The Lonely Ones currently have dates listed through January of 2022. Do yourself a favor and get to to see this group live. In the meantime check out their music on your favorite steaming service.
