The moment Collective Soul took the stage, they had the full capacity crowd on their feet and singing along. As a matter of fact, the only time anybody sat down was when lead singer, Ed Roland graciously told them, “y’all can sit down now, we’ll have you back on your feet in a minute.” He was not wrong! After a brief story about a phone call from AC/DCs Brian Johnson, recording an album in Elvis Presley’s Palm Springs house, or buying a guitar that very morning at a local Reno pawn shop, as soon as the first note of the next song was played, everyone was on their feet again.

Collective Soul kicked the show off with “Mother’s Love” from their latest album, “Here To Eternity,” which was released last year. The show was concluded with my favorite, “Where the River Flows.” In between those two songs, they played the “hits” you would expect to hear, such as “Gel,” “December,” “Shine,” “The World I Know,” “Heavy,” and “She Said.”

During the 90 minute set, Collective Soul played two cover songs garnering raucous applause. The first cover was AC/DC’s “Dirty Deeds Done Dirt Cheap” which was performed flawlessly. The next was more of a tribute than a cover song. Ed told the crowd that he wanted to play “Living On the Edge” in honor of Steven Tyler. Collective Soul sounded great and put on a rockin’ show! It was clearly evident from his interaction with the crowd that Ed Roland is appreciative of and loves the Collective Soul Fans.
