Most of the time I end up in more populated areas, not often a concert has you in the mountains. Not many of my friends know it but I actually grew up not far from here. If you didn’t know before reading this, tonight I’m in Walhalla with Drivin N Cryin. When I was growing up we didn’t get shows like this in the area. It’s a great thing seeing bands and the town branch out and share music with this area.
Opening up the show was the local guys Cravin Melon. I spoke with the singer after the show and he said something that really stuck with me. He made the comment “I’ve never had Myspace, Facebook, or any social media“. These guys aren’t worried about their online presence. They are interested in their love for music and playing for people. Don’t stare at a computer screen, make sure you see these guys in person. A lot of younger bands coming up should take note of this. This is a group of guys on stage playing music and having fun. I would love to see that more while working concerts
Before photography I was a drummer. I remember sitting down and learning Fly Me Courageous. I always seemed to struggled with the double time drum beat at the end. Neverless, it was a blast to just put on some headphones and play. Getting to see the actual band play this song live had me excited to cover this show. Drivin n Cryin were hitting it hard in the late 80s and early 90s pumping out hits. Yes, it was before I knew a lot about music but judging by the crowd, the band attracts many age groups. Kevn Kinney and the guys might not be young anymore, but apparently they didn’t get the memo because they still have the same talent and drive on stage they always have had. Let’s talk about Straight to Hell. Honeysuckle Blues and how the rest of their set had everyone singing and dancing. You could hardly hear the band over the crowd yelling out every single word, especially the choruses.
In a few weeks Drivin n Cryin will be back in the upstate at The Spinning Jenny in Greer, SC. Make it a point to put it on your calendar to check them out. Whether you are an 80s rocker, or younger with an old soul. This band won’t disappoint.
