Flawless Marcos Gloria wins PBR Pendleton Whisky Velocity Tour Stop in Greenville, South Carolina
Event win elevates Gloria to the No. 20 rank in the early 2022 PBR World Championship race
GREENVILLE, S.C. – As the PBR (Professional Bull Riders) Pendleton Whisky Velocity Tour returned to Greenville, South Carolina, for the third time in history, the world’s best bull riders showed up and showed out Saturday evening in front of the capacity crowd at Bon Secours Wellness Arena. Going a perfect 2-for-2, Marcos Gloria (Central de Minas, Brazil) won the PBR Greenville Invitational, surging to the No. 20 rank in the early 2022 PBR World Championship race.
Gloria got off to a hot start in Round 1 of the Palmetto State event, tying for second after he rode Barnett’s Row (JR Phillips) for 86.5 points.
The 31-year-old Brazilian then catapulted to the event lead when he bested Pneu Dart’s Black Label (Mike Miller Bucking Bulls) for a championship-round-best 87.5 points.
For his efforts, Gloria collected a crucial 40.5 world points.
After beginning the tour stop ranked No. 80 in the world, Gloria surged 60 positions in the world rankings compliments of the golden finish, now No. 20.
As the only other rider to be flawless, Bob Mitchell (Steelville, Missouri) was second, earning 25 points.
Mitchell first rode El Chapo (Tex Brothers Ranch) for 85 points in Round 1. The 19-year-old then continued his momentum in the championship round when he covered Pneu-Dart’s Southern Twist (Mike Miller Bucking Bulls) for 82 points.
Seeking his first PBR World Finals qualification at season’s end, Mitchell is No. 15 in the standings, up 19 positions after beginning the PBR Greenville Invitational No. 34.
Alex Marcillio (Macaubal, Brazil) was third.
The bronze finish was headlined by Marcillio’s Round 1-winning, 88-point ride aboard Whit (JR Phillips).
He left Bon Secours Wellness Arena having earned 17 world points and is now tied for No. 58 in the world.
Fourth was Carolinian Seth White (Statesville, North Carolina).
While White outmatched Lever Action (Mike Miller Bucking Bulls) in Round 1, marked 86.5 points, he was brought down in 3.52 seconds by Just Denim (Mike Miller Bucking Bulls) in the championship round.
The 1-for-2 showing earned White 9.5 world points.
Rounding out the Top 5 in fifth was Caden Bunch (Tahlequah, Oklahoma).
As a result of his 85.5-point ride on Homer (JR Phillips) in Round 1, Bunch earned six world points.
In the bull pen, Henry (Blake Sharp) and Triger (Blake Sharp) tied for the Bull of the Event honor, both marked 45 points.
Henry earned the score in Round 1 for his 2.24-second trip with Bryan Titman (East Bernard, Texas), while Triger posted the top marks in the championship round when he bucked off Ky Hamilton (Mackay, Queensland, Australia) in 2.81 seconds.
The 2022 PBR Pendleton Whisky Velocity Tour season continues January 28-29 in Grand Rapids, Michigan, and on January 29 in Jacksonville, Florida. The PBR Tractor Supply Co. Classic at Van Andel Arena begins at 8 p.m. EST on Friday, January 28, and at 7 p.m. EST on Saturday, January 29. The PBR Jacksonville Invitational at VyStar Veterans Memorial Arena begins on Saturday, January 29 at 7 p.m. EST.
