Charlotte, NC (7/24/22) – A pre-show thunderstorm may have temporarily halted entry to the venue but it by no means dampened the energy to be felt inside at show time. Rob Zombie is in town for the 4th night of his “Freaks On Parade” tour. Joining the lineup is the much awaited reunion of Mudvayne along with Static-X and Powerman 5000.
As the gates opened fans rushed to their seats to catch the openers Powerman 5000 as they immediately kicked off the night. With a short 7 song set the band dropped a “Bombshell” of a show packed with energy. Frontman Spider One led the band through hits like “Nobody’s Real” and the closer “When Worlds Collide” as older brother Rob Zombie watched side stage.
Followed by Static-X the momentum kept rolling. Performing hits such as “Love Dump” and “Push It” fans rallied in the pit matching energy on stage. Having reunited in 2018 with original members Tony Campos, Koichi Fukuda and Ken Jay the band recruited Edsel Dope to take on the image of the late Wayne Static and front the band. Since then the band has seen a resurgence in popularity and an increase in touring.
The long awaited reunion of Mudvayne has been teased with a few festival dates prior to the current tour. As the curtain dropped the familiar face paint emerged in the lights as the band kicked off their set with “Dig.” It didn’t take long for frontman Chad Gray to leave the stage as he took to a crowd surfing moment during the first song and multiple other times throughout the set. Members Greg Tribbitt (guitar), Matthew McDonough (drums) and Ryan Martinie (bass) prowled the stage as well delivering the bands hits “Happy,” “World So Cold,” “Death Blooms” and more. The adrenaline from the crowd was on high throughout the set. The foursome never took their foot off the pedal just driving the music to the fans who have waited over a decade to see the band on stage again.
With a stage full of digital screens displaying eye catching graphics Rob Zombie commenced to entertaining the crowd. “More Human Than Human,” “Living Dead Girl” and “Never Gonna Stop” kept fans singing along as Rob roamed the stage engaging with the audience. John 5 delivered an amazing guitar solo leading into “Thunder Kiss ‘65.” A giant alien and devil emerged on stage throughout the set towering over band members adding extra eye catching moments. Drummer Ginger Fish peaked from behind his kit with a menacing grin as Piggy D laid down the low end with his Frankenstein bass. A tease to the crowd would be a trailer that aired for the upcoming Rob Zombie recreation of “The Munsters” as the band would close with the hit songs “Dragula.”
The Freaks On Parade Tour continues through August 21st ending in The Woodlands, Texas.
