Greenville, SC (April 26th,2019) – Kicking off tonights show at The Firmament were local openers Red X and Redefind. Two bands that have been making a name for themselves around the area. With kilts, light up sunglasses, dj‘s and just pure talent you didn’t know what you were going to get next. These groups definitely showed the crowd the the music scene is alive and kicking in South Carolina.
Up next was Below 7. It was amazing that one minute you never heard of this touring band out of Virginia/Tennesse. And the next minute their singer had everyone singing along to their song “Fu&Ym2,” and yes, thats how its spelled. Find that song and give it a listen, you’ll be hooked by the time you hear the first chorus. I had the chance to speak with them for a bit after the show and everyone of them was nice and down to earth, just a group of guys who love music. They even stayed out front to support all of the other bands playing. Go find their album “Crashing Down“ and check it out.
When FLAW took the stage things got intense, fists in the air, people moshing, and Chris Volz pushing them to give him even more. When this guy is behind the mic, you better stop and pay attention. Stomping around on stage with amazing stage presence and bass in hand was Tommy Gibbons. Him and drummer Georges Octobous held down the rhythm section perfectly. Georges even took a second after the show to give a kid sitting up front a few drum lessons after taking him and letting him hang out back stage. On the left side of stage was guitar player Rob Buttonff who shredded his guitar the whole show. They even made sure to end the night with their hit song everyone was waiting for, “Payback“ This is one re-emerging band to keep an eye on, because these guys plan on climbing back to the top.

After a brief stay in Drowing Pool, Ryan McCombs is now back behind the mic and leading SOIL. They came into Greenville ready to show everyone they were back. Ryan is one of those frontman that when he sings or speaks, you listen. Him and original members Tim King (bass) and Adam Zadel (guitar) spent the night blowing everyone away with songs like “Redefine” and “Unreal,” with new drummer TJ Taylor fitting in the groove perfectly. These guys were giving everyone what they had been waiting for all night, to see that SOIL was still alive and kicking. Then it come time for the band to play their huge hit “Halo,“ with Ryan climbing down on to the floor to be with the crowd. He made everyone feel like they were singing it with him. When everyone thought the show was over, we got hit with an amazing cover of “Black Betty.” These guys have been back on the road touring and pushing SOIL back into everyone’s life, after celebrating their 20th anniversary in January of 2017. They have also just recently released a greatest hits album, which includes their version of “Gimme Some Lovin.“
If given the opportunity to see Chris or Ryan fronting one of these bands, get a ticket and go. These guys are a driving force on stage. And even after 20 years, a fresh breath to the rock industry.
