Fresh off the release of her brand new album “Appalachian Hearts,” Brandi Colt kicked off the night with a set of songs that are easy for many to relate to. Singing on life in the south to overcoming some bad choices in songs like “Sunny Day Hell” her music resonated through out the crowd. Joined by other notable locals Matt Parks (The Piedmont Boys) who sat in on fiddle along with Andrew Crawford (Jake Bartley Band) on guitar the trio also broke out some classic country favorites. From Porter Wagoner and Dolly Parton to Hank William’s “I’m So Lonesome I Could Cry,” Brandi and Andrew shared lead vocal duties enticing the crowd in to some great sing-a-long moments.
Taking time between a few songs Brandi provided some background stories about them and shared how some of the co-writes on the record came about like “List Of Fools” with Josh Morningstar who has written with Cody Jinks as well and Jaida Dryer. As the opening act drew to a close audience members eagerly waited through a short set change in anticipation of the nights headliner.

“We drove here from Texas to play some country music so that’s what we’re gonna do.” Those were the opening remarks from Sunny Sweeney as she took to the stage with her band and wasted no time jumping right in to a set list of fan favorites. With songs such as “Better Bad Idea” and “The Old Me” fans sang along and embraced that live music is finally coming back. Sunny provided some comical moments interacting with the crowd speaking of songs that, “make my daddy proud,” spoken with a hint of sarcasm. She took time as well to acknowledge a couples request to play “Grow Old With Me” in celebration of 18yrs of marriage. The attention quickly turned to a light hearted moment as another group celebrated a divorce party. Seizing the moment “From A Table Away” was soon played.
Having seen Sunny perform multiple times now it still never gets old. It is always a great show and you never know what story will be told to have you laughing. With the release of her latest album, “Live At The Machine Shop Recording Studio” it was nice to finally see a touring band back in the road again. Sunny expressed many times through the night how nice it was to see a room full of people again.
Just as the show seemed to be closing club owner, Keshia Moore, approached the stage with a request. Quickly drawing in fan backing to convince Sunny and band to play another 3 songs the crowd showed thanks with a standing ovation before heading to the merch booth to meet Sunny and purchase memorabilia.
Sunny is currently officially back out on tour so be sure to check out her site for more tour dates and upcoming new music as well. (Those of us in attendance were able to preview some of the new songs that sound great).
