Greenville, SC (February 22nd, 2020) – Through the years the term southern rock has changed and taken many shapes and forms. Bands like Pantera, Lynyrd Skynyrd and Kid Rock are still the main ones you think of when you hear this term. However, they need to get ready and prepare for the new style coming up.
As I walked in Demun Jones was getting ready to take the stage. This former member of Rehab is out promoting his new solo album Jones County with what some are saying might be his best collection of songs yet. With his long beard and straw hat, this guy storms the stage grabbing everyone’s attention. With nothing backing him but a drummer, lap top, and an electric fiddle this guy is still keeping everyone on their feet screaming. Then in the middle of it all, he asks for everyone to become silent so the band can play the national anthem. Demun says “I tried to focus on music that was for people I grew up around” and he has stayed true to that playing powerful southern tunes with a hip hop twist.
Taking the stage next were The Lacs. These Georgia boys are spreading what they refer to as “Hick Hop, Southern Rock” everywhere and doing it very quickly. Don’t let the beards, tattoos, and southern accents fool you, these guys know how to throw down hard. Leading the band is Clay “Uncle Snap” Sharpe and Brian “Rooster” King. Taking their music to bigger crowds and bigger venues every night with hits like Let Your Country Hang Out, Kickin’ Up Mud, and Field Party, they keep the crowd cheering and singing the whole show. Through out their set The Lacs brought out fellow guest musicians like Crucifix, Hard Target, and even Demun Jones back to the stage to join them. You had to be paying attention, you never know what was coming next with this groups high energy show. Even had Josh from the hit TV show Moonshiners in the crowd cheering for them along with Colt 45, drummer for the Moonshine Bandits.
As soon as you‘re done reading this, go check out what this new style of southern rock is all about in 2020. These groups are pushing this new style forward and gaining popularity quickly.
