Whiskey Myers – Reno, Nevada

Reno, NV (8/22/26) – The rowdy rockers from East Texas had just completed their co-headline run with Southern Rock stalwarts, The Black Crowes on the 41 date ‘Southern Hospitality Tour’ just days prior to their stop in Reno, Nevada.

What this meant for the sold-out crowd at the Grand Theatre is that we would have more time with Whiskey Myers and supporting act Southall. Speaking of Southall, they are a rock n roll band who have been on my radar for quite a few years. Formally known as Read Southall Band, hailing from Stillwater, Oklahoma, Southall has been putting out music since 2015’s album ‘Six String Sorrow’.

From the opening song of Southall’s rockin’ set (‘Runnin’), they absolutely delivered! The tight knit six-piece kept fans on their feet as the sang along. A highlight of their set for me came when Read decided to “slow things down a bit” and performed the platinum selling ‘Why’ from their 2017 ‘Borrowed Time’ album.

Before taking leave of the stage, Southall left us with a powerful message in song with ‘DLTGYD’ (‘Don’t Let Them Get You Down’). If you’re not familiar, be sure to keep an eye out, and your ears open for Southall. I’m looking forward to catching a headline performance from them.

Southall is:

Read Southall – Vocals, guitar, JT Perry – Guitar, Reid Barber – Drums, Jeremee Knipp – Bass, Bh Braxton Curliss – Keyboards, Ryan Wellman – Guitar

Now, the moment the energized crowd was waiting for…… The band that needs no introduction; Whiskey Myers took the stage pouring gasoline on the embers that Southall ignited. The band launched a high octane, guitar driven, musical assault with ‘Midnight Woman’ off 2025’s ‘Womp Wack Thunder’ album and kept the pressure on up until the 7th song.

If I were to say that the at capacity crowd was able to catch their breath at the song seven mark, I’d be lying. It seemed that even before vocalist Cody Cannon could begin ‘Broken Window Serenade’, the entire audience was singing the lyrics loud, proud, and with conviction.

Next up was ‘Ramblin’ Jones’, a rockin’ bluesy type tune also from ‘Womp Wack Thunder’. In all, the band played five songs off the latest album. An album that I feel is pretty great.

John Jeffers delivered the vocals to one of my favorite Whiskey Myers songs; the hard hitting, pedal to the floor, middle finger in the air, ‘Bitch’, before slowing things down for only the second time of the evening for ‘Stone’.

Whiskey Myers delivered an amazing performance complete with the driving twin guitars of John Jeffers and Cody Tate to accompany Cannon’s signature gritty vocals. Throughout the set, Cody Cannon made it a point to make eye contact with as many of the fans as he possibly could. There were several instances when he was not behind the microphone that he would venture to the sides of the stage and ask folks if they were having a good time.

This was only my third time seeing Whiskey Myers live, but I can tell you from experience, they absolutely bring the heat every single time.

Whiskey Myers is:

Cody Cannon – Vocals, guitar, harmonica, John Jeffers – Guitar, vocals, Cody Tate – Guitars, Jamey Gleaves – Bass, Jeff Hogg – Drums, Tony Kent – Percussion, keyboards, and drums
