Charlotte, NC (April 20th, 2019) – On a chilly Saturday night, The Brevet and The Unlikely Candidates brought their much celebrated “Strange Lines Tour” to a monstrous close. Charlotte was the last stop on the map for these two, and they both brought everything they had.

The Unlikely Candidates took the stage first, with contagious energy. The band is composed of Kyle Morris (vocals), Cole Male (guitar), Brenton Carney (guitar), Kevin Goddard (drums) and Jared Hornbeek (bass guitar). Promoting new songs such as “Novocaine” and “Strange Love” they incorporated both songs into their set with much approval.  For a last stop on a tour, some bands would want to just get through the set and head home…not these guys. Song after song, the energy never stopped, with other familiar songs such as “Call My Name” and “Oh Dear Lord” hyping up the crowd even more. Kyle brought a vocal range reminiscent of Brandon Urie while simultaneously entertaining the crowd. Not an easy feat at all. For a frontman, Kyle was one of the most energetic ones I’ve seen in a long time. Constantly pacing the stage, belting out vocals, and even jumping out into the crowd, It was amazing to see such passion put into one set.

The Unlikely Candidates have a keen ability to keep the audience guessing through the whole set. This band thrives on the live aspect of their sound, however they aren’t new to the aspect of the live show. Having opened for acts such as Fall Out Boy, this band fires on all cylinders when you give them a stage to play on. Equally notable was the overall tightness of the band. Jared and Kevin did an amazing job holding down groove. It is to be noted that half way through the set, drummer Kevin Goddard’s stick broke in half. Another example of the tenacious energy this band brings.

Last to take the stage was The Brevet. Like The Unlikely Candidates, this band brought everything they had for one last set. Starting the show with a black stage, The Brevet soon exploded into their set. Aric Chase Damm was leading the charge, armed with a Gibson ES-325. Out promoting their newest album “Legs”, most of the first half of the set was filled with epic songs from that album. The song “Legs” actually has a deeper meaning. The word “Legs” actually stands for “Like Every Great Story.” A very cool concept that only enhances the meaning of this album.

With The Brevet progressing through their set, one could tell that not only did they make great, catchy songs, but they loved playing them. More than just playing the songs, they love playing together as well. This band definitely has a unique sound, pulling from Bruce Springsteen all the way to Kings of Leon. But The Brevets sound is one that is their own, even incorporating pedal steel into their set, which was a welcome surprise. Like The Unlikely Candidates, it was incredible to see The Brevet bring so much energy to one final show on tour. A defining trait of all amazing bands is giving it your all night after night. A trait The Brevet definitely possesses.

When The Brevet went into their last song, they invited The Unlikely Candidates up on stage for an impromptu sing along. This had to be the best part of the night, seeing both bands just appreciating each others company. For these two bands, it truly is about the music, and the relationships that form because of it. Charlotte was fortunate enough to have the last stop on The Strange Lines Tour, a tour with two great and genuine bands.
