Simpsonville, SC (August 17th, 2019) – With fans packing into the CCNB Amphitheater for tonight’s show the excitement was building. A backdrop of heat lightning filled the sky with as much energy as was provided on stage. Ted Nugent has brought his “The Music Made Me Do It Again” tour to Simpsonville, SC along with guest opener Michael Austin.
Michael Austin
Having been on Season 4 of “The Voice” Michael Austin has continued to make a name for himself. With continuous touring and a brand new album, “The Good Life,” just released yesterday Michael has built a fan base that grew even more after his performance tonight. With his style of rock infused country he filled his set with music about what it’s like to be southern on “Show Me The Muddy” and plenty of American pride on “God, Guns and Country Music.” The Air Force veteran and former California cop showcased his band members with a cover of “The Devil Went Down To Georgia” that included some clever moments by incorporating songs such as Metallica’s “Enter Sandman” and others for brief moments throughout the song. Joking to the crowd Michael explained that normally artist have a song for the girls but this time he had one for the guys as the band broke into “This Ain’t No Love Song.” Michael Austin did a great job at warming up the crowd for tonight’s headliner.
Ted Nugent
Along with his iconic Gibson Byrdland guitar (co-deigned by the areas very own late Hank Garland who played with Elvis Presley) the “Motor City Madman” Ted Nugent took to the stage along with Greg Smith on bass and Jason Hartless on drums coming out with a bang. Having a career that started in 1963 with the Amboy Dukes “The Nuge” has been entertaining fans with his wild stage antics and guitar prowess for years. Opening with “Stranglehold” fans instantly rose to their feet singing along to every word. As the great “Gonzo” played through a list of hit songs he held the crowds attention from start to finish. Taking moments to engage with the audience Ted spoke on topics ranging from God, guns, being American in all its glory and even some of his often controversial political views to a crowd of open ears providing moments of laughter and applause. Nugent included other notable hits like “Wang Dang Sweet Poontang,” “Good Friends and a Bottle of Wine” and “Fred Bear” through out his set.
Going into “Free For All” Nugent took a moment to acknowledge military members amongst the crowd and thank them for their service. He stated that his grandson was in attendance for the show and the importance of teaching young kids like him that freedom isn’t free. He spoke about how if some are given the chance some will use “A Thousand Knives” to stab you in the back so you need to be aware of what’s going on and not afraid to stand up for yourself.
Providing his self proclaimed, “best guitar licks in the world” Nugent and his band of “Shitkickers” led into “Cat Scratch Fever” to end the night before being called back out by loud cheering from the crowd. Starting an encore off with “Great White Buffalo” the night ended with the backdrop being removed to reveal a large American flag as Ted gave his version of the “Star Spangled Banner” to a venue of fans standing at attention.
The current tour has dates scheduled until August 30th ending in Columbus, OH. Be sure to check out Ted’s latest album “The Music Made Me Do It” as well. Available online and digital music outlets as well.
