Spiritbox began the show ripping through one song after another. Asking the the crowd to “Circle With Me” front woman Courtney LaPlante commanded the crowds attention. Backed by Mike Stringer (guitar), Zev Rosenberg (drums) and Josh Gilbert (bass) the band won over many new fans with their 30min set.

After a short set break nothing but lights and the voice of Jacoby Shaddix filled the amphitheater as he gave an acapella intro to “Between Angels and Insects.” The California based band would go on to deliver other fab favorite hits, “Getting Away With Murder,” “Scars,” “Forever” and more. The band provided a high energy performance with Jerry Horton (guitar) and Tobin Esperance (bass) joining Shaddix head banging and running wild across the stage. Drummer Tony Palermo just as easily drew attention his way with his pounding beats. A somber moment was given as a speech about soberness and suicide prevention preceded “Leave A Light On” before closing out with their infamous “Last Resort.”

With 7 studio albums under their belt and 18 number one singles on Billboard Rock Charts it’s no surprise the band has sustained a 20+ year career. I’ve been watching this band live since the release of their first album “Leave A Whisper” and while some things have changed for the group Shinedown, some things stay the same. This band never fails to leave everything on stage, giving you all they’ve got and they never forget to make every fan in the venue feel welcome. With rock hits from “45” to “Planet Zero” and more melodic and anthemic songs such their cover of Lynyrd Skynyrd’sSimple Man” to their recent single “A Symptom of Being Human” the group takes you on a dynamic musical journey throughout their performance. They may be a rock band but they are also one of the most uplifting, positive influence groups to experience live with messages of looking out for one another, mental awareness and more.

The energy of the light show, digital imagery and pyro backing the band is an added great element but is overshadowed by the passion that Brent Smith, Barry Kerch, Zach Myers and Eric Bass give in their delivery of each note as they work the stage. I’ve seen this band play for 20-30 people in clubs to selling out arenas and that drive has always been there. Shinedown is a people’s band and therapeutic in many ways for listeners. Who knows what is on the horizon for and from Shinedown but I’m sure it is only more greatness.
